Women must plan for future, says financier

24 October 2008 16:55

The UK's women have been issued with a timely reminder that they must begin saving for their retirement.

Friends Provident has stated that with upcoming policy changes in 2010 set to affect the number of women who apply for full state pension, now is the time to being seriously considering their futures.

Research by the group discovered that 2.6 million of the country's females claim that they live for today or do not like to think too hard about the years to come.

Christine O'Grady, a media relations executive at Friends Provident, said that it would be good news if more women would be entitled to the state pension, but that there were other factors to consider in the cost of retirement.

As people are living longer, it is necessary that they seriously consider their retirement planning to ensure stability in their financial future, she added.

Last week, the nation's older generation and trade unions descended on parliament square to demand a better state pension.
